The SPCA and what they do

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or SPCA is a charity that helps and saves abused and abandoned animals. This charity helps protect around 40,000 injured, sick, abused or abandoned animals a year. At their animal centers the give sanctuary to all types of different animals and try to re home them whenever possible.

Similes

A tall man walked confidently on to the stage, he had a pile of papers as big as a dictionary. He is dressed in a black and white suit, and long black shoes, he had brown eyes, and long lanky fingers he gave me an odd feeling of insignificance.

There was a giraffe as tall as the small tree it stood next to. It had its head raised high in the air, and its tail swished side to side as it moved.

The bull charged at me, its horns were as big as two large knives.

The water swayed side to side its surface is as clear as glass.

What my friends are proud of.

Mataki- My friend Mataki said that he is proud of his improvement in math. He said he liked doing math and is glad he is improving.

Corin- Another one of my friends Corin said that he is proud of the animations and games that he made on a website called scratch. He said it can take a week to a month to make an animation or game and he works really hard on them.

Miller- Miller yet another friend said that he was most proud of his motorbike, and his skills and ability to ride one.

Cricket with Room 3

On the 14 November 2019 we played a game of Cricket as part of our classes sports section. We played against room 3. It was a fun game even though I was kind of confused at the start of the game as this was a different way of playing Cricket but I picked it up pretty fast. Room 3 won 176 to 223 ( I think ) for anyone who wanted to know.

This is how Climate Change is killing the earth

This is my most recent explanation about climate change and its effects of earth.

Climate Change is killing the earth
Out of all the planets in the Milky Way Earth is by far the best of them all!
It is unlike any other and has produced life to live on it, we call this planet our
home and it has provided us with everything we need to live. Water to drink,
air to breathe, and plants to grow. But this wonderful planet is being threatened
by something known as Climate Change and if we don’t do something about it
fast the place we call home may be destroyed.

So what is Climate Change, and why is it so bad? Well, Climate Change refers
to any significant change in the measures of climate lasting for an extended
period of time, these could be as short as a few decades or as long and as
millions of years. So basically it’s an extreme change in the weather or climate
that lasts a long time. And at first it may not seem like a big deal, but in reality,
it is killing the earth in many different ways.

Did you know that the Earth has gradually been getting hotter and hotter every
year? And that Earth’s average temperature has risen by 1.5 Degrees
Fahrenheit over the past century? This is because of a little something
called Global Warming. This is a type of Climate Change that heats up the
Earth by the release of greenhouse gases, these gases trap heat in the Earth’s
atmosphere which makes it hotter. And ever since humans were added to the
picture the number of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has skyrocketed
because of all the Carbon Dioxide (Co2) we release through the burning of
fossil fuels.

With things like Global Warming on the rise, there are many problems that are
negatively affecting our environment and wildlife. One of the most notable is the
melting icebergs and glaciers. This change in the environment is not only causing
the sea level to rise but is also killing animals that live in places covered in ice like
polar bears who use icebergs as hunting platforms and resting places. But with
Global Warming melting them at an astonishing rate they must swim farther to get
food and rest. Because of this many polar bears are struggling to find food and to
reproduce.

So how can we stop this ongoing planet-warming plant-killing and
civilization-destroying death trap? Well if we stop burning as many fossil fuels as
we do now we can lessen the amount of carbon dioxide released into the air. But
that won’t be enough we still need to get rid of the carbon dioxide that is already
in the atmosphere. This is where the help of trees comes in, you see trees
absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen in return so if we plant millions of
trees in the ground they will deal with the problem for us.

As you can see climate change is affecting the Earth in many different ways
and it is a serious threat to the world we live in. But there is still hope if we
manage to reduce the amount of fossil fuels we burn and care for the
environment then we could stop Global Warming!

My science project

This term we had to make science posters about a science experiment we had to do. I worked with
Tupac on our experiment. Our experiment was answering the question household  surfaces have the most bacteria on it, we tested 4 areas the toilet seat, kitchen sink, food chopping board, and front door handle.

Why plastic bags should be banned.

For a few weeks, we have been writing persuasive pieces in preparation for the speech competition, this is my opinion on why plastic bags should be banned.

                                               Plastic bags should be banned
Plastic bags are everywhere and why shouldn’t they be? They’re cheap and easy to use and when someone is finished using them they can dispose of it in the trash. But this useful piece of plastic, like most other plastics, is the reason for many environmental problems in today's generation. Such as the melting icebergs, and climate change. So get ready because this piece of writing will convince everyone that plastic bags should be but a faint memory.

Plastic bags pollute our oceans and land
Plastic bags are usually lightweight, because of this, they can travel long distances from either wind or water. The wind blows these plastic bags and trashes the whole area, they get stuck in fences, and float in water bodies which leads them straight to the sea. World wide 13.000-15,000 pieces of plastic are dumped into the sea every day. This leads to many marine animals that die every year.

Plastic bag production drains our oil supply
Habitat destruction, fossil fuel emission, and plastic pollution are all ways that plastic is destroying Earth. But have you thought of how much oil it takes to produce this plastic? Well, it’s estimated that 12 million barrels are used to manufacturer the 30 million plastic bags that Americans use every year, that's the equivalent of our strategic oil reserves! It is a complete waste of natural resources and contributes to climate change.

The production of plastic bags uses a lot of energy
Oil isn’t the only resource you need to produce plastic you also need energy, lots of energy. It takes the same amount of energy for a car to drive 1 km as it does to produce nine plastic bags. It is not rational that these non-renewable resources are being used on something that has an average life span of 10 minutes.

                                                       Conclusion
In conclusion, plastic bags are dangerous to the environment and consumes a lot of valuable resources. They might be cheap but they are a huge reason the world is dying, and should and should have been eradicated from planet Earth long ago.

Persuasive writing Why homework should be banned

Lately, we've been writing some persuasive writing in preparation for our upcoming speech competition. This persuasive writing tells my opinion on why homework should be banned.

                                                  Why homework should be banned

Homework, we all dread it, this repulsive piece of paper is the worst thing your teacher can give you as it keeps your stress levels high and robs you of your sleep. No one willingly does their homework but are forced to by their parents. So stop everything because by the time I’m done homework will be no more.

                                 Homework leads to less sleep
Studies suggest that too much homework can cause students (mostly teens) to stress, that combined with trying to get high scores in tests can lead to many serious problems like sleep deprivation. Which can negatively affect the students' performance in class.

                              Homework interrupts our relax time
The second reason students shouldn’t be given homework is that they need time to rest and take their mind off of school work. With all the things you do during school students should be given time to relax and spend time with family and friends. Because they’ve spent the day solving hard math problems and writing explanations so bombarding them with lots of homework will burn them out.

                                      Homework consumes free time
As stated before, students need time to spend with their family and friends sadly homework eats up all the time children have to do these things. And for older students homework is even more of a nightmare as lots of them will have part-time jobs which will make it a complete nightmare to finish.

                                                     Conclusion
This is why I think homework is the worst punishment that a student must endure during their time at school, and should never have been created in the first place.

Science This Term

                               Science This Term
This term we have been doing a lot of fun science experiments like making
catapults and seeing which ones fire accurately. I have learned what a fair test
is and how to make a lava lamp it has been a fun term of science and creativity.

This was my First Published Explanation of the Year

How to be a good friend
What is a friend? Is it someone who helps and supports you, maybe someone
that plays with you it may even be a person you play video games with but
have never met. There are lots of ways to be a good friend but there are lots of
ways to be a bad friend to. So what is a bad friend? And how can you tell if
someone is a bad friend? Well, you're in luck because I'm about to answer all
these questions this is a guild to being a good friend.

First off is how to be a good friend on the playground. A good friend on the
playground is someone who plays and talks to you. They should help you if
you get hurt or when you're sad. But if they laugh when you get hurt and ignore
that you're sad that means there a bad friend.

Another way to be a good friend is in class a good friend is someone that will
help you if you are stuck or confused. But this doesn't mean that they will do all
your work for you so you don't have to. They will just help you understand.
If someone is trying to get you to do there work they are not a true friend.

The last way to be a good friend is not to betray their trust. Say your best friend
tells you a secret, not even his mum knows and you go off and tell the entire
school. That is not how to be a good friend in fact that is the worst thing you
can do. As it breaks the trust your friends and everyone around you had which
isn’t a good thing and if you do this you are a very bad friend.

In conclusion, you shouldn’t be a bad friend instead try to be a good friend one
that helps and supports others in need.

How Black Holes are Formed

                             How Black Holes Are Formed
Black holes are some of the strangest and most fascinating things in space. They are objects of extreme density, with such a strong gravitational attraction that even electromagnetic radiation such as light can’t escape its grasp. They can grow to unthinkable sizes like the one in the middle of the Milky way that is 30 million times the size of our sun. But when and how are theses galactic giants formed? Did they just appear in space one day? That is the question I will answer for you today.

                                    Stellar black holes
The most common types of black holes are Stellar black holes and Supermassive black holes. Depending on their mass they would’ve formed in different ways. Stellar black holes are formed when a massive star burns out the last of its fuel. It will then collapses in upon itself to create a Stellar black hole. But this only applies to stars that have around three times of the sun's mass.

                                             Did you know
Black holes that are created by the collapse of individual stars are relatively small but incredibly dense. Such an object packs three times or more of the sun's amount of mass in a city-sized range. This leads to a crazy amount of gravitational force pulling surrounding objects towards it. Black holes consume gas and dust around them to grow in size.

                                   Supermassive black holes
Small black holes populate the universe but it’s these galactic giants truly dominate. Supermassive black holes are millions or even billions of times as massive as the sun. These black holes are thought to sit in the center of pretty much every galaxy including the Milky Way. Scientists aren't sure how such large black holes are created. Once they’re formed they gather mass from dust and gas around them which are materials that are plentiful in the center of galaxies allowing them to grow to enormous sizes.

                                                           Conclusion
As you can see black holes are fascinating objects that have amazed scientists for years they can grow to immense sizes and have an insane amount gravitational attraction. They are dense and could probably swallow the earth whole.
